Abstract
We analyzed the effect of knotted hook-wire for acute cases of small bone fractures in hand and children.
We made a knotted hook on mid-portion of standard Kirschner¡¯s wire to provide anatomical reduction by manual doctor¡¯s traction on opposite site of fracture and also bend the wire on opposite site and gives some compression by insertion of 1 or 2 buttons. Total 11 cases of intra-articular fracture in hand and children were treated with this knotted hook-wire successfully, and early joint motion could be permitted since 3 days after operation.
These are no cases of loss of fracture reduction, skin necrosis by compression on aluminum splint or button and increased fracture gap after knotted hook-wire fixation. They are all united in 4~6 weeks after operation and showed nearly normal adjacent joint motions. The only disadvantage in this knotted hook-wire fixation was mini-skin incision to remove the hooked nail later.
We designed a knotted hook-wire and found very good results with easy fracture reduction and their maintenance with some compression on fracture site.
